BMOP (Boston Modern Orchestra Project) presents four days of American vocal music in partnership with the Florestan Recital Project and Tufts Department of Music. Gil Rose conducts three performances by BMOP encompassing a broad range of repertoire, including works for voice and ensemble by Milton Babbitt, Jacob Druckman, Alan Hovhaness, John McDonald, George Rochberg, Virgil Thomson, among others, with special guests Thomas Meglioranza, baritone, and Lucy Shelton, soprano. In three additional performances, the intrepid and enterprising Florestan Recital Project presents the complete songs of Samuel Barber, plus several unpublished works, which were obtained by special permission from the U.S. Library of Congress and Barber’s estate. Hailed as “incisive and stylish” (BMOP) and “enterprising” (Florestan Recital Project) by The Boston Globe, these groundbreaking organizations offer an unparalleled exploration of the impact that American composers have had on the future of vocal repertoire. Funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
