Join esteemed Argentinian vocalist María Volonté and her "Tango Jazz" group for a special concert as part of the "Music in the Garden 101" series at San Francisco's beautiful Yerba Buena Gardens.
While there are many young musicians blending tango with techno beats, it’s rare to find an artist advancing the form who is so deeply steeped in tango’s fearless embrace of love, obsession and loss. María Volonté made an immediate mark when her 1996 debut Tango y Otras Pasiones was named one of the top 100 tango recordings of all time. Her third CD , Fuimos, was nominated for a Latin Grammy® and earned her the 2004 Gardel Prize, Argentina’s highest musical award. Volonté’s recent music softens tango’s jagged edges with lilting bossa nova rhythms and lush jazz harmonies, while retaining the music’s essential passion.
