Sing your way through history while exploring great vocalists and vocal styles. This interactive class, focusing on early jazz singing, combines three weeks of lecture, directed listening and conversation with three weeks of singing in a “master class” format. The first, third and fifth weeks will focus on the history and context of each vocal style with the alternate weeks providing the opportunity to sing what was learned.
Participants have the option to enroll for just the vocal history weeks or the entire six week session. Students participating in the vocal sessions should have decent pitch recognition, and while not required, basic sight reading and musicianship skills.
