Viy (The Spirit of Evil) is the fantastically surreal story of Khoma, a novice priest who presides over a three night wake of a young woman. Unbeknownst to Khoma, the young woman is a witch who rises from the grave and employs hellish creatures to pursue him through the chapel.



Jaromil Jiles' Valerie and Her Week of Wonders is a mainstay of the Czech new-wave. Valerie is a thirteen year old girl whose first signs of womanhood plunges her into a disorienting dream-like adventure full of lecherous villagers, shape-shifting vampires and a creepy, evil grandmother.



The double bill is a brilliant balance of old fashioned fairy tale horror and beautifully ethereal imagery that promises to be an unforgettable and alternative experience for Halloween.
