Viva Verde Earth Fest April 24, 2010

This year the Cities of Concord and Kannapolis along with Cabarrus County will be holding a joint Earth Day Festival.Plans include information booths, classes at the Dogwood Shelter, nature walks, geocaching, art contests, recycling, arts & crafts, music, childrens activities, paper shredding, food and more.There will also be a shuttle to and from the Piedmont Farmers Market.Schedule:Classes10:00 a.m. - Composting 101Pete Pasterz, Waste Reduction Coordinator for Cabarrus County11:00 a.m. - Weatherize Your HomeJoe Christie, program head, RCCCNoon - Your Yard is More than Just GrassColleen McDaniel, owner, Inspired Garden, Inc.1:00 p.m. - Local Food in Cabarrus CountyAaron Newton, author, land designer and incubator farmerGeocachingEvery 30 minutes beginning at 10 am, Cabarrus County Parks staff will offer a geocaching activity. Please meet at the Dogwood Shelter.Greenway Nature IDsEvery hour starting at 10 am, Cabarrus County Parks staff will host a greenway nature walk that includes plant, bird and wildlife identifications.Music:Viva Verde will feature live music from several different bands. Hosted by Jeff Whittington and John Culbreath, who will play during set breaks, styles range from bluegrass to Motown to rock.
