New Media Manitoba and MARIA present:
Bryce Kushnier will talk about the economics and the politics of remixing, why it can be intensely satisfying, and how it can go horribly wrong. If you are interested in digital audio, DJ culture, and remixing, you will not want to miss this event.
Bryce will be using several different software applications to highlight how he approaches remixing including FL Studio, and Sony's Acid Pro If we're lucky we may even be treated to a demo of a Yamaha Tenori-on and the Monome!
Bryce has created indie-rock remixes for groups including You Say Party We Say Die, These Electric Lives, The Framework, David & The Citizens, Woodpigeon, & Madrid. He will also use his attemped remix for Corey Lee (of Instant Star) to talk about the politics and economics of remixing.
In the 10 years that Bryce’s vitaminsforyou has been around, he has been hailed by music critics and fans alike as one of the early originators of the lo-fi bedroom electronics scene, and has garnered worldwide attention through the release of his two critically acclaimed full-length albums. SPIN Magazine (US) called him "a melodious laptop whiz," and Le Bonheur says "VFY is radically different ... melody is pushed to the bones and the structure of the songs are blasted in melodies which makes you totally disoriented ... [an] incredible album." Now based in Toronto, Bryce is a proud Winnipeg native and will be performing as part of the Jazz Winnipeg Festival.
The event will be held at Psych Health, 771 Bannatyne. Please arrive early to find parking, we begin 7 pm sharp.
