In conjunction with the "Downtown Artwalk" and the Pat Berger retrospective exhibition, LA Artcore will present "Visions & Voices IV", another evening of poetry featuring authors Iris Berry and Chris Desjardins at LA Artcore Union Center on Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 7:30 p.m.
The event will be hosted by Richard Modiano of Poetix.
Iris Berry is a native Angeleno described in the press as "a punk-rock James Ellroy in fishnets". Berry's poetry and short stories have been widely anthologized in a number of literary journals and collections, such as the Outlaw Bible of American Poetry (Thunders Mouth Press) along side the likes of Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs. Her book of short stories and poems was published in the often dark yet infinitely smart and funny Two Blocks East of Vine (Incommunicado Press). Before that, New Alliance Records released Berry's "Life on the Edge in Stilettos" CD followed with Berry's most recent release, "Collect Calls" on Bad Bunny Records, which features 13 tracks of Berry's acclaimed poetry backed by the haunting guitars, observing the seedier sides of Hollywood, Berry interprets the world with poet's eyes and a sultry voice which should be selling expensive French perfume.
Chris Desjardins is a punk poet, rock critic, singer, writer, actor, and filmmaker. Desjardins (aka Chris D.) is best known as the lead singer and founder of the early Los Angeles punk/death rock band The Flesh Eaters. He has written for the magazines Slash, Forced Exposure, Asian Cult Cinema (when it was known in the early 1990s as Asian Trash Cinema) and Cult Movies magazine. Desjardins' current book "A Minute to Pray, A Second to Die" is a collection of poetry, lyrics and prose, including excerpts from unpublished novels ans was published last November by New Texture Books.
