The Whitney Performing Arts Residency includes five new VisionIntoArt works in four nights (every Friday night in April at 7PM) developed collaboratively over the past two years. VioLens-interpretations of German children’s tales by H. Hoffman centered on violence, with renowned filmmaker, animator and visual artist Marth Colburn (her collage style work with super 8 film and flat puppets recently garnered awards and notice at Sundance, the Whitney Biennale and Cannes Film Festival ); Body Maps, a work exploring body parts and their memories through the art work of the famed Mexican visual artist Erika Harrsch; Sounds, the collective’s interpretation of the colors red, black, white and blue told through a political and cutlural lens, resulting in a collage-like tribute to Kandinsky’s manuscript, Sounds; ReMix, a collection of reinterpreted pop, world, funk and electronica, and Freedom Songs, a tribute to poetry and songs that promote civic awarenes and explore the power of song. Guest artists such as clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, poet Patrick Rosal, poet Seraphim of the electro-punk hop crew No Surrender, visual artists Martha Colburn and Erika Harrsch, and composers Matthew Burtner, Michael Gordon and Raz Mesinai, choreographer Regina Miranda, join the VIA Ensemble and VIA composers Paola Prestini, Milica Paranosic, Pablo Rieppi and Nico Muhly.
