In conjunction with the monthly "Downtown Artwalk" and with the ongoing exhibition by artist Kaoru Mansour, LA Artcore will present "Vision & Voices VI", the sixth in a series of evening poetry events featuring authors R.D. Armstrong and Peter Marti. Richard Modiano of Poetix, will introduce the evening event.
R.D. Armstrong, (aka Raindog), has been published in nearly 100 magazines and anthologies including Drinking With Bukowski (Thunder's Mouth Press, 2000); Poesy Magazine (several different issues); An Eye for an Eye - poets on 9-11 (Regent Press, 2002); ArtLife Vol. 20 #1 & #3 (2000) and The Louisiana Review (2001). His work has also been published on-line at various websites including Abalone Moon; The Ragged Edge; Sacramento Poetry Art and Music; Thunder Sandwich; St. Vitus Dance; Yoni (Australia); The 365 Project; Big City Lit; Poetic Diversity; and The Hold. Raindog is also the publisher of the Lummox Journal and a poetry chapbook series called the Little Red Books (LRB for short). The Lummox Journal lasted for eleven years. He's still publishing the LRB series, as well as an on-line poetry zine called Dufus.
Peter Marti studied at Naropa's Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics with Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, et al. Member of the San Francisco based poetry/art magazine collective Birthstone in the '70s, rock n roll singer in '80s and part of the Wordland performance poetry group in the early '90s. Nominated for a Pushcart Prize, 2002. Some of these poems appeared in Napalm Health Spa and Big Scream. Of Peter Marti's poetry, Gregory Corso wrote: "Bum Poet! Yeah, you made me see it- good sound, good clear images." San Francisco poet laureate Jack Hirschman said of his first book, "Bitter Smoke, Holy Words is good! You ain't scared of letting the "self" go on the page.you use the "I" with a certain confidence that suggests your "I" has its eye on the world as you."
