Virtuosic Siblings: A Film and Art Festival
from Berlin to Los Angeles

For 40 years, Los Angeles and Berlin as “Sister Cities.” To celebrate this anniversary, and a rich history of collaboration between German and American artists, Villa Aurora will host a film festival in venues across Los Angeles on November 15-17 with such notable film makers and artists such as Werner Herzog, John Baldessari, Corinna Schnitt, Carsten Niolai, Maya Deren many more.

The three-night program will include “film couplets”; pairings of films of artists from Berlin and Los Angeles, including documentaries and experimental art and films. For “Virtuosic Siblings,” Berlin-based artists – all former or current fellows of Villa Aurora – selected “partner artists” from Los Angeles with whom to screen their works.

Their collaboration reveals the potential of artists coming together across generations and cultures. Common influences are discovered between the German and Amercian artists as well as productive contradictions.

The programs includes Carsten Nicolai, Doug Aitken, Corinna Schnitt, Diana Thater, Christian Jankowski, John Baldessari, Thomas Köner, Masako Tanaka, Natascha Sadr Haghighian/Judith Hopf/Florian Zeyfang, Liza Johnson, Rosa Barba, Werner Herzog, M+M, William E. Jones, Klaus Weber, Maya Deren, Eva Grubinger, Kerry Tribe, Laura Horelli and Ann Kaneko.

Also, a special installation Augenstuck #1 by Thomas Florschütz will be on display from November 12 through December 12 at the Goethe-Institut Los Angeles.
