San Francisco Performances is proud to present young master violinist Chloe Hanslip in an evening of works by Brahms, Beethoven, Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Szymanowski. She will be accompanied by pianist Ashley Wass.
The complete program will feature Brahms' Scherzo from FAE Sonata; Beethoven's Sonata No. 9, Op. 47, "Kreutzer"; Prokofiev's Sonata No. 1; a Shostakovich sonata and Trois Caprices by Karol Szymanowski.
At the age of 21, Chloe Hanslip has already established herself as an artist of great distinction on the international stage. Her two earlier CDs with the London Symphony Orchestra for Warner Classics, won her, respectively, the German Echo Klassik Award for "Best Newcomer" (2002), and "Young British Classical Performer" at the Classical BRITS (2003). More recent releases garnered superlative reviews and prompted Philip Clark, writing in Gramophone, to conclude that "Playing like this should secure Chloe Hanslip's reputation for life." She has performed in major venues around the world, including Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Vienna Musikverein, Louvre and Salle Gaveau-Paris, The Hermitage-St.Petersburg, Carnegie Hall and many others.
Pianist Ashley Wass is firmly established as one of the leading performers of his generation. He is the only British pianist to have won First Prize at the London International Piano Competition and is also a former BBC New Generation Artist. Wass is the Naxos label's first ever exclusively contracted solo artist, and his recent surveys of piano music by Bridge and Bax have been heralded as "the yardstick against which all future recordings will be judged."
Hanslip is actively pursuing new and unusual repertoire to add to her extensive concerti, recital and recording programs. This will be her first appearance with San Francisco Performances.
