Violinist Ana Milosavljevic NYC Performance October 24, 2008

Contemporary violinist Ana Milosavljevic showcases some of today’s top women composers at TheTimesCenter (242 West 41st Street), Friday, October 24th, at 8:00pm. An enthusiastic performer, Milosavljevic premieres four new works for violin combined with electronics, video, dance, and other various stage elements, as well as special guest artists. In addition to sonic representations portraying the rich culture and music of Serbia by Serbian-American composers, other program highlights include works by two of the most vital female personalities on today’s new music scene - a world premiere by Tania León, and Eve Beglarian’s Wolf Chaser (1995).

Leading the program is a world premiere by Afro-Cuban composer/conductor/professor Tania León. Designed for violin and percussion, the piece brings together Milosavljevic’s “tour de force of violin playing (New Music Connoisseur)” with the demonstrative percussion of guest artist Alex Lipowski of the Timetable Percussion Trio. Eve Beglarian’s Wolf Chaser (1995) is a meditative, entrancing work for amplified and processed scordatura violin, metallic percussion, pre-recorded electronics, and acoustic wolf chaser (an Arctic tool made of whale baleen). Known for possessing “an eclectic and wide-open series of enticements,” Beglarian’s music constructs a haunting essay that conjures a terrain of vast isolation. Milosavljevic’s chameleonic style is accentuated in a new dance work created by the violinist herself, for solo violin and solo dancer born from a collaborative process with contemporary choreographer/dancer Takehiro Ueyama of TAKE Dance Company.
