A heart wrenching romantic comedy about love, image and the choices we all make. When Tom falls in love with Helen, who is smart, funny, sexy and plus sized, both of them face unexpected opportunities and challenges as they learn to understand more about themselves, the expectations society puts on them, and the truth about the choices they are making.
The cast includes Mari Geasair as Helen, Andy Anderson as Tom, James O’Hagan-Murphy as Carter and Janelle Christie as Jeannie.
Neil LaBute, enfant terrible of contemporary American theatre, studied writing at Brigham Young University, University of Kansas and New York University. His plays include The Mercy Seat, The Distance From Here, Some Girls, The Shape of Things bash: latter-day plays, and This Is How It Goes - which will premiere at New York’s Public Theatre and will be directed by George Wolfe. Films include In the Company of Men, Nurse Betty, The Shape of Things, The Wicker Man and Lakeview Terrace.
“FAT PIG” won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Play in 2005, is a current hit in London, and due to open on Broadway Spring 2010.
I can't recall when I last saw a funnier and more astutely written pick-up scene as "That First Meeting With Her"… LaBute was smart to tell his story within a comedic framework. Elyse Sommer – CurtainUp
