The Village Light Opera Group - New York's high-octane community theater - brings back Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel with a fresh staging for six performances in May, at The Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University in lower Manhattan. A cast of 60 and a full orchestra continues a century-old theatrical journey that began in 1909, when Molnar’s play Liliom, on which 1943’s Carousel is based, first stunned theater audiences. VLOG’s new production also celebrates a second theatrical journey—it’s been 75 years since the company began enriching New Yorkers with the works of Gilbert & Sullivan and other musical theater titans. Performances are May 13 at 8 p.m., May 14 at 2 and 8 p.m., May 15 at 2 p.m., May 20 at 8 p.m., and May 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets: $20, $35, $45.
