Veterans' Monument dedication, From Boots to Books, Nov. 5 November 5, 2009

Edmonds Community College dedicates a monument to veterans, “From Boots to Books,” at 1 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 5 on the hill west of Brier Hall. Join members of the student Club Vet, college president Jack Oharah, and Distinguished Alumnus Steve Pennington. The community is invited to a short ceremony.

Many people are apprehensive when returning to school after time away, but those returning from military service and also combat meet additional complex challenges. A student veterans’ club initiated, designed, and raised funds for the monument to welcome fellow veterans to college and show them that the community stands ready to aid them in their transition from military service to scholarship.

The veterans’ monument has been commissioned from artist Roger Robert Wheeler of The Fremont Fine Arts Foundry, Seattle.
