A Veteran’s Benefits Presentation sponsored by FirstLight HomeCare of Walnut Creek will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Contra Costa JCC, 2071 Tice Valley Blvd., in Walnut Creek. Presented by the Millman Center, the presentation will be led by Mike Hoffschneider, a former Contra Costa County Veteran Service Center manager with over 30 years of experience. This informative event is intended to provide the senior community with information to increase awareness about the benefits that are available to veterans.
“One of the main problems I see among the senior community is the lack of awareness of the myriad of benefits available to them—none more so than the VA Aid and Attendance Program,” said David Bonacci, owner of FirstLight HomeCare of Walnut Creek. “I have yet to run into a vet or vet’s surviving spouse who is aware of the program. More often than not, the vet is in dire need of aid, but simply doesn’t have the money to pay for the needed help. This information could literally change their lives for the better.”
Mirroring senior populations throughout the rest of the country, many of the thousands of veterans living in the Walnut Creek area never receive state and federal benefits they’re entitled to because they are unaware that they may qualify for health care, tax breaks and other types of compensation.
Veterans, spouses, family members of veterans, and professionals who work with seniors who are veterans are encouraged to attend this presentation, which is free to the public. RSVP at millmancenter@ccjcc.org or call (925) 938-7800, ext. 257.
