Vermeer’s Masterpiece The Milkmaid:
Discreet Object of Desire
Walter Liedtke, Curator of European Paintings.

Johannes Vermeer’s famous painting The Milkmaid (ca. 1657–58) will be on loan from the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, to the Metropolitan Museum from September 10 through November 29. Walter Liedtke, organizer of the exhibition, will discuss the painting’s place in Vermeer’s early work and its subject’s surprising significance.
