This month's edition of VCU Jazz @ The Camel will feature two non-university but student run groups.
The Compass Rose Orchestra - This is a group led by trumpet player and composer/arranger Lucas Fritz. The 9 person army consists of 4 horns and a 4-5 piece rhythm section the work together to create an overall groove-tastic experience. With tunes by Bjork, The Blood Brothers, and even favorites form Cream, you will definitely hear something that you like. You might even catch some 90's R&B......
The CMP Trio - This trio consists of Paul Willson, Chris Harrison, and Marcus Tenney. The chemistry between these three is electric. Marcus, a trumpet player turned tenor sax player, has a Coltrane-like sound that blends great with Paul's modern tunes and Chris's driving bass. The group will play a mixture of standards, some modern tunes, and even some originals.
As always, this event is free to everyone and all ages. Get there early, stay late, have a drink (or 2, or 3 or 4...) and enjoy this great music in the middle of the holiday hustle. If you're feeling extra saucy, why don't you wear your favorite Christmas sweater, hmmmm???
