The OC Pavilion is pleased to welcome the West Coast Premiere of the Off-Broadway production “Vatican II: What the Hell Happened?” on February 29, March 1 and March 2. Ticket prices range from $25 to $35 and can be purchased through the box office at 714-550-0550 or online at http://www.ocpavilion.com.
“Vatican II: What the Hell Happened?” tells the story of Margaret Mary’s beloved St. Nicholas church set to be leveled in order to build a new SuperMart and her quest to save it. Margaret Mary uses her dazzling wit, charm and anecdotal stories as she recounts her Catholic upbringing in hilarious, touching and memorable moments. She has to win over the cranky chairman of the town council and its members in order to spare her beloved church. The show’s uproarious conclusion will have the audience in comical stitches and Margaret Mary finally at a loss for words exclaiming – “What the Hell Happened?”
The special comedic/acting talents of Kathy Cogan come alive in the character of St. Nicholas' choir director, Margaret Mary O’Malley. Ms. Cogan played ‘Sister’ in Late Nite Catechism and starred in the national sensation, The Vagina Monologues. Ms. Cogan wrote, co-produced and stars in this new comical one-person show (with contributions made by Michael Coleman). The stories Ms. Cogan tells are straight from her memories of growing up right in the thick of the confusing change between Vatican I and Vatican II.
“Christians, non-Christians and even atheists will find plenty laughs in Vatican II. And Catholics, well, they’ll laugh so hard their stomachs will hurt-and they’ll feel guilty about it later,” said Jeffrey Bruner of the Iowa Register.
The show starts at 8 PM, doors to the OC Pavilion and Ambrosia Restaurant open at 5 PM. Reservations for Ambrosia are strongly encouraged as show nights tend to sell out.
