Varnish Fine Art’s Experimental Film & Video Art Series Continues March 26th with a Presentation of New Video and Live Sound by Local Artists

San Francisco Artists Rob Racine and Jesse Clark work together to merge their opulent video work with a live sound mixing in this month’s Moving Pictures, March 26th, from 7 to 9pm.

San Francisco, CA. March 12, 2008. Varnish Fine Art’s ongoing series of experimental film and video art continues in March with a presentation by local multi-media artists Rob Racine and Jesse Clark. This month, the boys are showing some of their lesser-known video-work in a collaboration accompanied by a live audio component. Their work dramatizes the symbiotic relationship between image and sound, and reflects these two artists’s connection on documenting an environment and bringing forth unique imagery in response. As always, Moving Pictures is screened the last Wednesday of each month, from 7 to 9 pm.

Rob Racine is a mixed medium abstract painter and video artist. His approach interacts with a build up of layering techniques using, line, motion, and striking color relationships. He likes to work freely and allow for the unexpected. "Creating art gives me the opportunity to express my sense of rhythm, balance, and energy," he says. "I hope the viewer, while bringing their own energies to the work, will also have a new perspective on the process behind my imagery. The compositions display an intentional depth of texture and emotion with a twist on manipulating video imagery through sound. “I find a lot of inspiration in this sort of interaction," Racine says. "The different layering techniques give the work a depth that can be felt and interpreted in a variety of ways."

Rob and Jesse have worked together on prior Moving Pictures presentations and Varnish is pleased to have them back in the gallery for this special live performance. As both artists will be in attendance, feel welcome to come and discuss their work with them. The evening comprises a selection of their videos with intermission and introductions by the artists themselves.

Varnish is a 21+ only venue. No one under the age of 21 will be admitted. No babies or kids, either.
Gallery Directors Jennifer Rogers and Kerri Stephens opened Varnish Fine Art on April 19, 2003. Beginning with the remains of a brewery built just after the 1906 earthquake, Rogers and Stephens designed and rebuilt the space, including a main gallery, mezzanine gallery and wine bar, combining gallery with community.
