Varnish Fine Art’s Experimental Film & Video Art Series Continues with Another Screening February 27th, Featuring a Selection of the Bay Area’s Fine Female Filmmakers.

Varnish Fine Art teams up with the San Francisco Women’s Film Festival in presenting this month’s Moving Pictures, February 27th, from 7 to 9pm.

San Francisco, CA. February 13, 2008. Varnish Fine Art in collaboration with Scarlett Shepard of the San Francisco Women’s Film Festival presents this month’s screening of Moving Pictures, an evening of experimental film and video art. Moving Pictures is screened last Wednesday of each month, from 7 to 9 pm.

This month’s show, Wednesday February 27th, features a selection of the Bay Area’s accomplished female artists and filmmakers. Terrie Samundra, won the 2007 Guttman Award for “Best Experimental Narrative Short Film” for her project A Short Tale of Xuan, a coming of age story about a young Vietnamese girl from an immigrant family. Vanessa Woods is the recipient of the Ella King Torrey Award for Innovation and Excellence in the Arts and has screened internationally. Jill Johnston-Price is the winner of Best Animation at the Great Lakes Independent Film Festival. These women in addition to other local female artists are presenting their acclaimed experimental and animated short films at this month’s screening of Moving Pictures at Varnish Fine Art.

Filmmaker and community educator, Scarlett Shepard founded the San Francisco Women’s Film Festival on May 15th, 2004, where she honors, showcases, and facilitates the creation of films that are directed or co-directed by women. Varnish Fine Art is pleased to aid the cause by collaborating with Shepard in this evening’s presentation. The evening is two-hours of short films with introductions by Moving Pictures curator Danielle Schmitz and the artists.

Varnish is a 21+ only venue. No one under the age of 21 will be admitted. No babies or kids, either.
Gallery Directors Jennifer Rogers and Kerri Stephens opened Varnish Fine Art on April 19, 2003. Beginning with the remains of a brewery built just after the 1906 earthquake, Rogers and Stephens designed and rebuilt the space, including a main gallery, mezzanine gallery and wine bar, combining gallery with community.
