Going to a Vance Gilbert concert presents a problem of balance. With that superb, soaring voice of his you want to be right there in the front row to get the full effect, but anyone in the front row is fair game for his quirky sense of humor. In the days before I married Judy I innocently took a date to a Vance Gilbert concert and sat front row center. Being sartorially challenged, the experience was akin to painting a large target on my body as Vance analyzed my wardrobe in excruciating detail, all the while asking my rapidly reddening date how she could allow me out of the house looking like that. It says something about how good Vance is that she came to his next concert (even after we broke up) and I booked him for this one. I feel safer now since I sit in the back of the room at the sound board, and besides, Judy will inspect my apparel before we get to the concert.

But I'm not the only audience member to suddenly find their 15 minutes of fame have arrived at one of Vance's shows. Last year he delivered a marriage proposal from the stage on behalf of a shy groom, (she accepted) and held a lengthy conversatgion with the little cutie in the picture above. We didn't get her name, but she was almost as entertaining as Vance.
