In the early 1930s, climbing opportunities for women were virtually non-existent, yet Ruth Mendenhall - together with her husband, John - made numerous first ascents in North America, blazing trails through what are now considered “classic” Sierra Nevada peaks. Though her name is immortalized on mountain routes & summits, Ruth is largely unknown to Americans, and for the first time, her daughter Valerie (a Pasadena native) brings her spectacular story to light.
