Locanda del Lago in Santa Monica presents an Italian-flavored "Menu di San
Valentino" for Valentine's Day (Sunday, February 14) beginning at 4 p.m. and
also offered evenings from Friday, February 12 through Friday, February 19,
2010. The romance-filled four- or five-course prix fixe menu pairs each
course with special Italian wines. The popular Santa Monica restaurant is
known for its unique menu, which spotlights the cuisine of Bellagio on Lake
Como in Northern Italy.
"Menu di San Valentino" begins with an appetizer of luna oyster "au gratin,"
sea urchin, Kaluga Amur caviar, Oro Blanco grapefruit and market spinach
paired with CHAMPAGNE BRUT, TATTINGER, followed by a large housemade
heart-shaped raviolo with zucchini blossom-ricotta-egg yolk filling and
Molise Black truffle paired with ORVIETO, TENUTA SALVIANO, '08. Main
courses are rose water poached monkfish, crispy farro and purple carrot
purée paired with CHARDONNAY, IRON HORSE, '06, and Natural Niman Ranch filet
mignon, prune-foie gras Au Torchon, bok choy cabbage and potatoes
paramantier paired BAROLO, REVERSANTI, '05. Dessert to share is Lovers
Cake: sweet chantilly sponge cake, chocolate cream and fondant paired with
BRACCHETTO D'ACQUI, ZENATO, '08.
The four-course dinner (choice of monkfish or filet) is $55 per person, the
five-course dinner is $75 per person, and the Wine Tasting Pairing is $24
per person, all excluding tax and gratuity.
Lago, which has been attracting foodies, celebrities, locals and travelers
since opening in 1991, is dedicated to providing the ultimate restaurant
experience with exceptional flavors in each dish coupled with meticulous,
friendly service. The kitchen features the most flavorful ingredients
available in conjunction with traditional and innovative recipes to keep
guests coming back for new experiences. All pastas, focaccia bread,
desserts and gelato are made fresh daily at the restaurant. Seasonal dishes
as well as numerous regular menu items feature produce from the local Santa
Monica Farmer's Market to utilize the freshest, organic, most flavorsome
produce available while keeping the purchases local to Southern California
from local growers.
Valentine's Day reservations are strongly suggested. Valet parking is
available, and all major credit cards are accepted.
