A performance featuring the Cleveland folk-rock band Uzizi, with members of the Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble. Opening the show will be the Akron-based folk-rock band Light of the Loon.
Uzizi's performance will include the premiere of two collaboratively composed pieces that blend Uzizi's music with traditional Chinese music.
Uzizi, led by Cleveland Heights native Craig Matis, is a unique group whose music transcends musical boundaries, drawing on such diverse influences such as rock, folk, Celtic music, world musics, and Sacred Harp shape note singing (an indigenous American form of folk choral singing). Uzizi's members sing and play acoustic and electric instruments (including guitars, electric bass, MIDI drum set, and Irish fiddle), as well as a 10-piece choir.
The three members of the Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble will play instruments including sheng (mouth organ), yehu (coconut fiddle), pipa (pear-shaped lute), and guzheng (zither).
There will be an admission charge of $5 for this performance.
