As parents begin to plan for the new school year, Utah Connections Academy (UCA), a tuition-free, provisionally accredited virtual public school, is hosting a free information session from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10 at the SpringHill Suites, 1580 N. Freedom Blvd. in Provo.
“This is a terrific opportunity for families to learn about our online program and individualized approach to education,” said Linda Harless, UCA principal. “We follow the same curriculum as a traditional school, but students have much more flexibility in terms of when they attend live lessons and when they do class assignments. Students can work at their own pace, advancing quickly or taking extra time with teachers on subjects that are more challenging.”
The information session will cover several topics, including the school’s program and curriculum, the enrollment process, how teachers interact with students in a virtual environment, college preparation, social events, such as field trips and clubs, and other relevant topics. Because UCA is a virtual school, it is available to K-12 students who reside anywhere in Utah. Tuition is free, and enrolled students receive a computer and books at no charge.
Parents are encouraged to speak with other parents of children enrolled in UCA to get their perspective of the online school. A recent Parent Satisfaction Survey revealed:
• 95 percent of parents agree that UCA’s curriculum is high quality.
• 96 percent of parents are satisfied with teachers’ helpfulness.
• 95 percent of parents agree that UCA’s technology tools improve their child’s learning experience.
• 94 percent of parents agree their children are satisfied with the program.
