The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will support the preservation of the former USS Growler, the only nuclear missile-carrying submarine open to the public in the United States, with a weekend of special guests, events and demonstrations on Saturday, May 5th & Sunday, May 6th at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue) in Manhattan.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet former Growler crew members who served underwater in closed quarters for 90 days at a time, join Intrepid’s Exhibits Team to examine authentic Growler and Navy artifacts that are otherwise not on public display and enjoy hands-on, family-friendly Growler-inspired arts and crafts activities.
The event is part of the Intrepid’s effort to preserve the USS Growler through Partners in Preservation, a community-based initiative by American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation in which preservation grants are awarded to historic and cultural landmarks based on the public vote. To help restore the Growler, please cast your vote at www.Facebook.com/PartnersinPreservation or www.PartnersinPreservation.com.
