*WEBUQUERQUE IN OCTOBER '10*
PHP is a free scripting language ideal for server-side web development. Widely used, PHP provides developers a full suite of tools for building dynamic web sites.
In this presentation, local web developers Peter Brown and Mark Casias will cover a wide-range of topics, from what PHP is, what is isn't, how to use it to help you, and how to implement it to make it work best for you.
Specific topics, such as a brief history of PHP, basic syntax ("hello world!" anyone?), usage of variables, HTTP Request methods, and how to use classes to make your code more powerful and concise will be covered. They'll also discuss more advanced concepts, such as Database Connections, Class Includes and Platforms.
*Presentation to be followed by socializing at One Up for those folks who want to stick around.*

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Peter Brown has been designing and creating for the web since 1998. His interest in computers and programming started when he broke his father's old Pentium I PC in grade school (it was an accident I tells ya!) and was subsequently ordered by his father to fix it. This quickly turned into an interest in QBASIC programming, then into application development, and finally websites.
Having heard about JavaScript, he wanted to become the next big thing on the web — in 7th grade. Because JavaScript is not the base language for websites, he learned HTML by accident from his JavaScript book, which had wonderful examples. From there, languages came and went: Perl, Visual Basic, all the various flavors of HTML and JavaScript, and finally, PHP.
He currently does freelance work to continue to develop his skills and, of course, to supplement his day job's income.

Mark Casias is a Web Developer for UNM Hospital. A local web enthusiast, he enjoys working with front-end technologies and can often be heard touting the wonders of the Drupal platform. Living in New Mexico for over twenty years, he plays hockey and tennis.
