PRESENTED BY: IAN COLON and WeSPACE
AT FIVEPOINTS ARTHOUSE
Opening: Thursday, June 2nd, 6 - 11pm
Closing: Saturday, June 18th
US is a group participatory performance which allows all attendees to create the experience and content of a contemporary art opening and auction. US is a platform for any person to create and present work outside of their traditional comfort zone. US requires participants to attempt to see both mixing a drink and hanging a painting on a wall as elements of work supporting the creation of a fun, scary and social experience. Please join us to celebrate the lack of differentiation between relational aesthetics and fun and games.
Roles are assigned by chance to patrons upon arriving: prompted with a set of instructions as to how to perform a task ranging from creating artwork to pouring a drink, the viewer becomes a performer in a piece under the control of the entire audience. Allowing the everyperson to let their natural creativity and language define the experience, US encourages the destruction of boundaries between gallery and studio. Without snubbing arts education, this experience seeks to instill confidence in the participant that, no matter the individual’s expertise, they too can rise to the challenge of expressing themselves in a gallery context and have a great time doing it. US is a fun, no-pressure performance that requires your unique spin on cutting an apple, painting a canvas or writing a press release. We all have something great to say; US wants to hear from you.
