Join the "Urban Explorers" as we embark on an exploration of our city and of city life. We'll focus on various aspects ranging from architectural to cultural, historical to quirky and/or a combination of any of the above and by doing that, you will certainly see the many wonderful facets of our urban jungle and hopefully gain a better appreciation of the city you live in. So put on that explorer's hat and let's go!
For tonight, let's join the Homestead Museum and the Silent Society for an evening featuring a silent movie from the 1920s. Michael Mortilla will present live musical accompaniment!
That particular silent movie is going to be The Lost World, an action film featuring the pioneering special effects of Willis O'Brien (this film paved the way for King Kong, created by O'Brien eight years later using the same techniques). To find out more about The Lost World, keep on reading.
Plot Summary
Explorer Professor Challenger is taking quite a beating in the London press thanks to his claim that living dinosaurs exist in the far reaches of the Amazon. Newspaper reporter Edward Malone learns that this claim originates from a diary given to him by fellow explorer Maple White's daughter, Paula. Malone's paper funds an expedition to rescue Maple White, who has been marooned at the top of a high plateau. Joined by renowned hunter John Roxton, and others, the group goes to South America, where they do indeed find a plateau inhabited by pre-historic creatures, one of which they even manage to bring back to London with them.
This movie definitely pre-empts Jurassic Park and it'd be wonderful if you could join us for what will be a fun evening under the stars.
If you'd like to join me for dinner before the movie, RSVP here!
Where to Meet: Meet me in front of the museum by 7:00 pm so that we can arrive to get good seating for the 7:30 pm show.
