Join the "Urban Explorers" as we embark on an exploration of our city and of city life. We'll focus on various aspects ranging from architectural to cultural, historical to quirky and/or a combination of any of the above and by doing that, you will certainly see the many wonderful facets of our urban jungle and hopefully gain a better appreciation of the city you live in. So put on that explorer's hat and let's go! Today's event is all about checking out the public art of some of the Metro Red Line Stations and all for FREE!

Have you ever wanted to take a ride on either the Metro Gold or Red Line but were unsure about how it all works or where it goes or maybe, you just have a fear of public transportation in general? :) :)

Whatever your reason is, this event will be the perfect one to not only gain a familiarity with how to utilize the Metro Rail System, but to also get to know and appreciate the public art that you'll see at the various Metro Stations, all in the company of other MiLA'ers.

For this 2 hour roundtrip tour, which will be led by a docent, we'll be stopping at between 4 to 6 different stations all along the Red Line, coming from Gateway Transit Plaza. Along the way, we may be checking out the colorful tile work at the Hollywood/Western station or feel like astronauts at the Vermont/Sunset station. Of course, there's still much more that can be listed here and if you want to find out more, you'll just have to come along.

Considering that this is a FREE tour, you don't have any excuses and even better once the tour is over, you can even use the Metro Day Pass that comes with this tour for the rest of day. Now that's a sweet little bonus!

So come and join us for what will be a fun morning exploring some of the beauty that exists in our public transportation system.

Parking:

If you enter through Union Station, the parking lots around Union Station run $8 to $10. Your best bet is to park closer to Olvera Street and than walk to Union Station. Once at Union Station, walk down the corridor all the way to end and than get on the escalator going up. Go out the doors and turn left and walk towards the Metro Transit Building and walk towards your left to Customer Relations.

There's also a parking structure off of Vignes Street. Parking there will run you $6. Take the Metro Elevators to the Plaza Level. The Metro elevators do not say "Metro Elevators". The signs are on colored walls with the universal sign for elevators and the word "ELEVATORS." On P3, the wall is green. P2, the wall is orange. P1, the wall is blue. When you reach the Plaza Level you will be inside the Metro building. Walk outside the building. On your right will be Customer Relations.
