Now in its 25th year, Urban Bush Women remains one of the premier performance ensembles dedicated to using cultural expression as a tool for social change. Weaving contemporary dance, music, and text with the history, culture, and spiritual traditions of African Americans and the wider African Diaspora, this remarkable group celebrates the transformation of struggle and suffering into the bittersweet joy of survival through an unexpected combination of sheer physical force and astounding gracefulness. This program is a collaboration with the National Black Arts Festival, which will present its educational component.
