The Upallret Dance Group was formed in 1993 by Daniel Bill, Myron Naneng and Earl Atchak in order to give an opportunity for the young people to learn to dance and to perform. The group’s main emphasis has been to influence our youth to stay alcohol-free and drug-free through dance. Many of the dance group members are from Bethel, Alaska, as well as the coastal villages in the Yukon/Kuskokwim Delta region.
The group will be in Washington DC to celebrate and assist in the NMNH opening of the exhibit, Yuungnaqpiallerput (The Way We Genuinely Live): Masterworks of Yup’ik Science and Survival. In celebration of the exhibit opening, NMAI will be hosting the dance group for one performance only.
