Love good pies, cakes, fudge, cupcakes, cookies, muffins and more?
Beckley Renaissance, United Way of Southern West Virginia and Relay for Life are teaming up again this year for the third annual Sweet Treats Dessert Festival Saturday, May 2, in Beckley.
Funds raised support the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and Beckley Renaissance. There will be plenty of good food to enjoy, and it’s a nice event to get the whole family out for a day.
Among the desserts to be featured will be fudge, brownies, cinnamelts, assorted candies, cheesecake, cookies, dipped strawberries, tea, coffee drinks, snow cones. The Lost Parrot will be serving homemade pizza samples and parrot poppers (like a heavenly mini pepperoni roll). While the Parrots Sweet Treat is not a dessert, once you taste it you'll say "sweet".
These Sweet Treats will be served by restaurants and businesses including The Lost Parrot, Rockhouse Java & Gelato, Trio Consignment, McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, Starbucks, Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center, Tamarack, Jan Care Ambulance and Cultural Delight. Organizations signed up so far include Beckley Woman’s Club, Charleston Blues Society, Juneteenth Festival, Wasteland Paradise, United Bank Relay for Life team and the Exhibition Mine.
The event will be from noon to 2:30 p.m. in the Jim Word Memorial Park area on Neville Street and at uptown businesses along Neville and Heber streets.
Live music by Big Phat Delicious will be featured in the Word Park gazebo from noon to 12:45 p.m.
Event attendees purchase a $5 ticket that provides them a strip of six dessert sample tickets. Ticket stubs put them in the running for a door prize drawing, and attendees will receive a People’s Choice ballot.
