It has been established that cancer is a genetic disorder, and that processes that maintain the integrity of the genome are frequently disrupted in cancer cells. Recent findings raise the possibility that genetic instability may also play a causal role in the pathologies associated with aging. Professor Campbell will provide a brief overview of the link between genetic instability and cancer, and will describe some of the intriguing new evidence linking genetic instability to aging. The challenges associated with studying aging in long-lived species such as humans, and in developing therapies to enhance human longevity will also be discussed. Colin Campbell is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota. Sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Study.
