From the Greek city-states of Athens and Sparta to the time of the great Roman Emperor Augustus, this course explores the military, political, economic, intellectual and social history of ancient Greece and Rome. There is an emphasis on primary sources, both written and archaeological, and the development of an historical methodology. The course introduces students to the study of history as an academic discipline as well as developing some of the study skills necessary for university study.
