University of St. Thomas Presents St. Martin de Porres Society Feast Day Celebration

St. Martin de Porres Society will celebrate the feast day of its patron saint on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at the University of St. Thomas.

Mass will be held at 5 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Basil, 3802 Yoakum, Houston, TX 77006.

A Caribbean-themed reception will follow Mass from 6 to 9 p.m. in Malloy Hall, 3815 Mt. Vernon (Zip: 77006). St. Martin de Porres Society is UST’s African-American alumni society named in honor of one of the most beloved Catholic saints. Juan Martin de Porres was born in Lima, Peru in 1579. He is the patron saint for African-Americans, social injustice and race relations.
