University of St. Thomas Music Program Presents a Yom HaShoah Concert

The University of St. Thomas Music Program will present the Yom HaShoah Concert beginning in the Chapel of St. Basil and ending and Cullen Hall (4001 Mt. Vernon). Yom HaShoah is the annual commemoration of the Holocaust. The concert features instrumental, choral and solo vocal music. The event is free and open to the public.
Performances include:
• A multimedia composition SS St. Louis by Dr. Malcolm Rector of the University of St. Thomas with Dr. Ann K. Fairbanks, UST Faculty, playing the flute.
• Choral and Vocal works by Dr. Michael Horvit, Professor Emeritus of Composition of the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston, (1) Even When God is Silent (2) I Have Taken An Oath (3) Is Not A Flower A Mystery.
• ‘The Despair and Agony of Dachau,’ Paul Sifler’s organ solo
• Choral works of consolation including C. Hugo Adler’s ‘Early Will I Seek Thee’ and Louis Lewandowski’s ‘Shiviti L’Adonai’ from the Yom Kippur Day Services.
This event is sponsored by a grant given to the University of St. Thomas from the Herzstein Foundation. The Herzstein grant is intended to foster a deeper understanding of Judaism and to promote interfaith relations.
