Internationally renowned dancer and native of Galveston, Timo Lozano, has performed and collaborated with top figures in the flamenco arts. Considered by Spaniards “Maestro de Bulerías,” Lozano’s dance combines youthful energy with age old wisdom. Accompanied by the emotive cante of Irma La Paloma and Jeremy García’s captivating toque, “Unidos en Compás II,” will mark Lozano’s premiere at San Jacinto College.
This unique production, the vision of Irma La Paloma and Jeremías García, centers on the “compás” or flamenco’s beating heart. The compás is the meter which, along with harmonic structures and melodies, characterizes flamenco rhythms or “palos”. Its structure and accentuations give flamenco its characteristic feel or “soniquete.” Elastic, accelerating, arresting, “silente o marcao,” compás is ever present and unifying. In parallel concept, “Unidos in Compás II,” unites these artists as well as talented local artists in flamenco cante, guitarra y baile.
