Since the seventeenth century, the concerto has been one of the most popular genres of classical music, combining the virtuosity of a soloist with the power of an orchestra. This study day examines the structure and development of the concerto, with musical examples from such composers as Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Tchaikovsky and others.
