West Tennessee Honors It’s Own Motown Legendary “Funk Brothers”

Jackson, TN – July 28, 2009, The Blues Preservation Partners announce they will honor the West Tennessee members of the Legendary Motown “Funk Brothers” during it’s “Under the Stars and Blues Skies” concert event on August 8, 2009 at 6PM at the Wolfe Enterprises Amphitheater.

The “Funk Brothers” are noted as "having played on more number-one records than The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, and The Beach Boys combined." As described in Paul Justman’s 2002 documentary film Standing in the Shadow’s of Motown, based on Allan Slutsky's book of the same name.

The show features the “Queen of Soul Blues” Ms. Denise LaSalle who has just completed a new CD on the Malaco Label and is still grieving from the loss of her long time friend and blues legend Koko Taylor. Koko and Denise both started their music careers with Chess records in Chicago. Koko Taylor is a Grammy Award-winner who passed away on June 30, 2009 had just won her 29th Blues Music Award on May 7, 2009 in Memphis (for Traditional Female Blues Artist of the Year). She will be royally missed. Also on the show will be Blak Ice reeling from their new CD release. Another seasoned artist appearing will be “The Real Deal From Beale”, Blind Mississippi Morris, who was rated among the top 10 harmonica players in the world by Bluzharp Magazine. The soulful sounds of Tee Rainer will also echo in the skies that night. Proceeds from this event support The West Tennessee Cultural Heritage Association, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.
