Interactive Musical Revue to Benefit At-risk Children
Join Light of the Canyon United Methodist Church for a night of rock-n-roll and light comedy at a dinner theater production of “Uncle Phil’s Diner,” March 23 and 24, 7 p.m., at 101 S. Chaparral Ct., Anaheim Hills. Set in a 1950's diner, the plot centers around Uncle Phil and his wait staff as they eagerly anticipate the arrival of the evening's entertainment--a band called The Desotos. As it becomes increasingly apparent that The Desotos may never show up, the waiters and D.J. attempt to keep the audience entertained. Tickets are $15 each or value pack of four for $50 and include dinner. All proceeds benefit Camp Wonder, a summer camp for at-risk children.
“Uncle Phil’s Diner is for the entire family, with singing, dancing and even some audience participation,” said director Truck Smith of Anaheim Hills. “We invite the community to join us for an evening of fun that also benefits a worthwhile cause, Camp Wonder.”
This is the second year Light of the Canyon has sponsored disadvantaged children for Camp Wonder. Children come from group homes, foster homes, single-parent families and even the streets. Ninety percent of last year’s campers were referred to Light of the Canyon by Orange County social workers and healthcare professionals. While the church sponsors Camp Wonder, it is not a Christian camp. It is open to all children, regardless of religious affiliation or background.
The 25-person cast composed of church and community members includes: John Fader of Villa Park as Uncle Phil, Shaun Christmas of Mira Loma as PJ the DJ, Alice Bowden of Yorba Linda as Mom, Kacee DeMasi of Orange as head waitress Flodene and Arthur Wilson of Riverside and Emine August of La Habra as Nerds in Love.
The entire community is welcome to Uncle Phil’s Diner, “where the food is fresh and so is the help.” For information or tickets, call 714-283-4633 or visit www.lotc.org.
