The 100-member UNC Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Tonu Kalam, opens its 2009-10 season with the world premiere of Michael Gandolfi’s Of Angels and Neurones, a work written for the UNCSO as part of Carolina Performing Arts’ 10x10 commissioning initiative. Mr. Gandolfi, whose orchestral work The Garden of Cosmic Speculation was recently nominated for a Grammy award, has had his music performed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Orpheus, among other major ensembles.
