Cavalli’s 17th-century opera mixes mythological and human characters in a story involving intersecting love triangles. Serious characters sing heartbreaking laments while comic characters sing lustily of the pleasures of love. One of the most popular operas of its time and of the Baroque revival in our time, this performance will be fully staged, directed by Terry Rhodes, and accompanied by an ensemble of Baroque instruments led by Brent Wissick.
