"Zhuravlyky" Ukrainian Dance Ensemble ("Little Cranes") is a group of young Ukrainian boys and girls living in different locations of the San Francisco Bay Area, spanning from Monterey to San Francisco, San Jose and several locations in the East Bay as far north as Orinda. This group of 20 dancers ranges from 5-17 in age, and started learning the traditional Ukrainian dances together in 2007 under the supervision of Mrs. Vera Vizir.
Mrs. Vizir is a scientist at the ARC/NASA Space Program, but her love of Ukrainian traditional dance spans back to a time when Ukraine was not an independent country, when dancers in the U.S. danced not only because they loved to do so, but they danced to preserve the cultural tradition of a Ukrainian nation.
Now, a new generation of young Ukrainian dancers continues the traditional dances of their ancestors and the love and artistry of these dances continue to thrill.
