The energy security of the UK’s gas has been maintained despite liberalisation and a shift from indigenous supplies to a significant reliance on gas imports. However, both Government and market participants have voiced concerns that Britain is becoming increasingly exposed to supply security incidents, whilst the measures to mitigate such events have lagged behind. The masterclass will take attendees through the key national and global factors impacting on gas security of supply, the role of recent initiatives such as Ofgem’s Gas Security of Supply Significant Code Review, the potential for new gas storage investments and the obstacles that need to be overcome.
Benefits of attending:
• Understand how the UK's gas market has evolved and the increasing influence of global factors on price and volumes
• Learn about the technical, economic and regulatory criteria for assessing security of supply
• Understand how the UK storage sector has evolved and how it might develop in the future
• Discuss the barriers to new storage investment and debate how these might be overcome
• Consider how the physical interactions between the gas and electricity markets might evolve as renewable generation increases
