An estimated 44 million family caregivers in the United States provide unpaid care to loved ones coping with aging, illness, or disabilities.

About 80 percent of community care is provided by family caregivers, at an estimated value of $306 billion a year.

Such services as respite, psychological support, outreach and education, care management, and information and referral provide essential support to family caregivers.
