The University of Arizona BookStores and the College of Humanities will celebrate the launch of UA Reads, the university’s new common reading program, with a kick-off event at the main campus bookstore located in the Student Union Memorial Center. President Robert Shelton and the UA Reads team will introduce the program that invites the campus and community to read the same book and participate in discussions and campus events related to the work. President Shelton will personally distribute free copies of this year’s book to ten students from UA’s Arizona Assurance program who were selected for this honor. Faculty from the College of Humanities selected Luis Alberto Urrea’s Into the Beautiful North, a contemporary novel set in Mexico and the U.S., for the UA Reads inaugural year. The year’s events will culminate with an appearance by Urrea at the Tucson Festival of Books March 12 -13, 2011.
