PURPLE MOON DANCE PROJECT UNVEILS ITS 20TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION WITH THE UNFORGETTABLE SECRET RHYTHMS OF JOY and LIZ BOUBION'S "MACLOVIA'S BIRDS", APRIL 15-17, DANCE MISSION THEATER, SF

Framed within a backdrop of ethereal light, shadow and movement, and juxtaposed against high-tech visual imagery, Artistic Director Jill Togawa unveils Purple Moon Dance Project's 20th Anniversary season with The Unforgettable Secret Rhythms of Joy. As the first chapter of a larger work, this world premiere questions the speed at which our lives flow in relation to technological advancement. "What would a not-so-fast world be like?" asks Togawa.

A tale for all ages, The Unforgettable Secret Rhythms of Joy introduces the goddess, the hummingbird, and the silver box of invisible webs. Told through the voices of children and adults, this inquisitive work uncovers the forgotten pleasures of reality.

Maclovia's Birds is a multi-media dance-theaterᅠproduction featuring dancers Liz Boubion, Dominique Nigro, Kathrine Orloff, Gina Shortenᅠand musicians, Karla Avila, Renee Benmeleh, T-Bird Luv, and Evelie SalesᅠDelfino Posche.ᅠ It is based off the drawings and writing of Boubion's Mexican grandmother Maclovia Lujan Duran Boubionᅠ(1895-1984) who immigrated to Los Angeles,ᅠCalifornia where sheᅠhad 10 children and 32 grandchildren.ᅠᅠFor her finalᅠMFAᅠperformance fromᅠthe California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS),ᅠLiz explores her lineage and the roll of the arts in theᅠface of oppression and trauma.ᅠᅠᅠWith theᅠpower of song andᅠthe language of movement, the artists integrate the nature of birds both caged and freeᅠon a metaphorical tension wire between the past, present, and future.ᅠ Liz has been teaching and performing locally and abroad for 20 years with a focus in dance as a healing art,ᅠvoice retrievalᅠand somatic therapies.ᅠ For more information see www.lizboubion.org
