Reality Aside Theatre Presents
Artist Descending a Staircase by Tom Stoppard: In 1972 an elderly avant garde artist is murdered, leaving his two friends suspecting each other. To reveal why, successive scenes flashback toward the 1920s and then progress back to 1972. Each of the three was infatuated with Sophie. Before she tragically went blind she fell in love with one of them after viewing his picture in a gallery. Which artist Sophie loved has been a bone of contention all their lives.
The Real Inspector Hound by Tom Stoppard: Feuding theatre critics Moon and Birdfoot, the first a fusty philanderer and the second a pompous and vindictive second stringer, are swept into the whodunit they are viewing. In the hilarious spoof of Agatha Christie like melodramas that follows, the body under the sofa proves to be the missing first string critic. As mists rise about isolated Muldoon Manor, Moon and Birdfoot become dangerously implicated in the lethal activities of an escaped madman.
The reading series will happen on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month. All these reading are open to all and free of charge. The summers plays are 7/22 “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)” by Jess Borgeson, Adam Long & Daniel Singer, 8/12 “Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar and Grille” by Bruce Graham and 8/26 “Love Love’s a Pornographer” by Jeff Goode.
Each reading will open with an episode of “Larry and the Werewolf” by Jeff Goode. This is written in serial form and each ten min. episode ends with a cliffhanger. It’s a hilarious spoof of detective, film noir and old horror movies.
